Daily Event for November 18

Nov. 18, 1942 while escorting convoy ONS-144 the Norwegian corvette Montbretia K-208 was torpedoed and sunk by the U-262. The corvette was hit by one torpedo in the bow which caused the deck above the bridge to collapse killing the helmsman. This may explain the turn she made which put her directly in the path of the second torpedo. This caused the the ship to break in half and sink quickly. So quickly that 45 of her crew went
with her. The 25 survivors were picked up by the Norwegian corvette Potentilla K-214 however, two died of
their wounds on board and were buried at sea.
