Daily Event for July 25

Two battleships were launched on this date, 29 years apart.

In 1908 the South Carolina BB-26 was launched at William Cramp in Philadelphia and the Vittorio Veneto was launched by CRDA in Trieste, Italy in 1937. Almost thirty years lead to some significant changes in battleship design and size. The South Carolina was 452' long, displaced 17,617 tons (full) and carried 8 12"/45 guns as her main armament. She had a maximum range of about 30,000 yards. The Vittorio Veneto was 778' long, displaced 45,752 tons (full) and mounted 9 15"/50 (381mm) as her main armament giving her a maximum range of 48,820 yards.

Despite their differences both shared the same fate. South Carolina was scrapped in 1924 and Vittorio Veneto was scrapped in 1948.
