Daily Event for September 8


September 8, 1934: The liner Morro Castle caught fire at 2:45 am off the coast of New Jersey. The night before Captain Robert Wilmott died from an apparent heart attack. Even though they were only 6 miles from the coast 137 people died mostly to crew incompetence. The burned out hulk washed up on Asbury Park, New Jersey.
