November 9, 1971: The bulk freighter Banaluna, loaded with magnetite iron concentrate vanished some 1000 miles east of Japan. The 8,100 ton ship had reported in on Nov. 9 by radio but this was the last contact anyone had with the ship. At the time the captain had not notified anyone that his ship was in distress so her loss remains a mystery.
