On November 4, 1895 the Granite State hit the Runnelstone near Land's End. She was towed to Porthcurno, but attempts to save her failed. She was carrying a load of wheat, which absorbed the water and expanded bursting the hatches. She broke up and sank in a winter storm a few days later.
