Daily Event for August 19


August 19, 1918: The UB-12, a coastal torpedo attack U-boat was lost for unknown reasons. The UB-1 type boat had made 98 patrols since being commissioned in March 1915. One of seventeen UB-1 type boats commissioned into the Imperial German Navy in World War 1, she had a maximum range of only 1,650 miles and carried only 2 torpedoes. The UB-12 had nine commanders and sank 24 ships, the largest being the British ship Silksworth Hall at 4,777 tons. At the time of her loss she had 19 men on board.
