My great grandfather Thomas Anderson was a passenger aboard the Atlantic and survived by swimming ashore.  It is told in our family that he saved a boy by carrying the boy on his back as he swam to shore. I am trying to learn how Thomas Anderson got from Halifax to he United States. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Carole Scotti

Several years ago an online New York Museum had a souvenir carte-De-viste of a young boy who was unnamed but was reported to have been the only child survivor of the RMS Atlantic disaster of 1873. Regretfully this picture is apparently not available online; however thanks for your website/reference which does have a photograph of John Hindley online!

Sincerely,
Dr. Phillip A. Fazzini
