October 30, 1979: McDonnell Douglass F/A-18 Hornet prototype #3 (160777) seen above USS America CV-66 about to make the first arrested landing. Between Oct. 30 and Nov. 3, 1979 the new Hornet made 37 arrested landings during qualifications. This aircraft was destroyed in a crash on Mar. 16, 1981.
