(The ships mentioned, Ashlea, Newton Beech and Trevanion, had all been sunk by the German cruiser Admiral Graf Spee. All the men mentioned were at that time prisoners aboard the Altmark, but would rescued in Feb. 1940.)

(The Orzel's escape was used, in part, by the Russians to annex Estonia. Orzel went missing with all hands after sailing from Rosyth, Scotland on May 23, 1940. The wreck has not been found to this day.)
