Note the report in column 1: "Soviet Ship Sunk By U.S. Sub Off Japan, Tokio Says"
(The report states that the Soviet freighter Angarstroi and the Japanese freighter Calcutta Maru, were both sunk by an enemy submarine. Both ships were sunk by U.S. submarines, Angarstroi, an Allied ship, was sunk in error by USS Grenadier SS-210, all 63 on board were picked up by a Japanese ship. Calcutta Maru was sunk by USS Triton SS-201, I have no casualty figures for this ship.)
Also note the report in columns 6-7: "Navy War Dead and Missing Placed Officially at 5,486 Men"
(Sadly, this figure is reasonably accurate.)
Also note the report in column 5: "Lt. Krug, Escaped Nazi Flier, Captured by F.B.I. in San Antonio"
Also note the report in column 7: "Ban on Use of Autos Every Sunday Proposed"
