Note the report in column 2: "River Gunboat Od U.S. Is Lost"
(What the report does not state is that USS Wake PR-3 was captured by the Japanese at Shanghai, China on Dec. 8, 1941 (Dec. 7th Pearl Harbor time.) I don't know the fates of the men who were captured, but all of them remained in Japanese custody until the end of the war. The little boat was put into service for the Japanese, captured by the Americans after the war, given to the Chinese Nationalists (Chaing Kai-Shek) and finally captured by the Chinese communists (Zedong Mao) in 1949.)
