Also note the report in column 8: "Army, Navy Hunt Sub That Fired On California"
(The submarine, I-17, fired 17 shells at the oil refinery at Elwood, California. Very little damage was done as the shots mostly fell off target. The Army and Navy did not find the submarine this time, but it was sunk on Aug. 19, 1943.)
