Note the report at top right: "Raider Sinks U.S. Ship off Iceland"
(The American [actually ex- Danish now Panamanian flagged] ship was the Pink Star, which was one of the 16 ships sunk from convoy SC-42. Pink Star was sunk by Kapitänleutnant Erich Topp and his U-552, 12 crewmen were lost, 22 were picked up.)

Note the report in columns 4-5: "Two Big Italian Liners Destroyed"
(The two ships sunk were Neptunia and Oceania, and both were sunk by the British submarine HMS Upholder. For as many men the two ships had on board, only about 384 were killed. Over 5,000 were picked up by the escorting ships.)

Note the report in column 6: "America in War Within Three Months, M.P. Says"
(Mr. David Grenfell, M.P., predicts that the U.S.A. would enter the war on the side of Britain, Russia and China within three months. He was correct, but I rather doubt that he suspected that the U.S. would be at war with Japan.)

September 23, 1941: Front page of The Sydney Sun, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
(Click on the image for a readable version.)
Note the report in columns 6-7: "Nazi Troops Tune In To B.B.C."
(Prime Minister Winston Churchill was told by a French "lad" that German troops listed to the BBC every night. He also told them that German troops who are billeted with French families were forced to listen to the BBC. Since the penalty for tuning into foreign radio is death, this report is nothing more that wishful thinking of a boy telling the Prime Minister what he wants to hear.)
