Note the report in column 2: "G.B. Planes Sink Nazi Destroyer"
(The R.A.F. believed that a destroyer had been sunk by Beauforts, probably of 22 Squadron, but this was not accurate. The attack, however, did result in a torpedo hit on Gneisenau, which the R.A.F. was not aware of at the time. It's interesting that over the last few days there were reports that Scharnhorst and Gneisenau had been attacked and possibly damaged, none of them were true, but in the attack which actually resulted in a hit on one of the ships, the R.A.F. remained unaware. This would change, because this attack resulted in the posthumous award of a Victoria Cross.)
