(This assertion by Mr. Sheean is completely absurd. As we know from history, there was never a Nazi invasion of England let alone the western hemisphere. This appears to be an obvious attempt to rally the public against the enemy, which in itself is not without merit. However, nobody seemed to ask exactly how Hitler could possibly invade to the west. I am certain that the people in the know were aware that Hitler had no real ability, in men or equipment or supplies, to invade any western territory, with the exception of the Channel Islands, which were undefended. It's true that you must have public support for any war, but to use misinformation and lies to scare the public, even if the government had at one time good intentions, has led to a never-ending diet of lies being fed to the public by the government. It has also led the public to have a complete lack of trust of their governments and institutions. To exaggerate a threat has had serious consequences throughout history, right up to today. How many years has the U.S.A. been in the Afghanistan? Just saying. In the Escanaba Daily Press tomorrow there is a report that officials in Michigan are asking the war department for anti-aircraft batteries along with 1,500 officers and men to defend Detroit from a Nazi air attack. Another completely absurd premise.) |

In official British documents it is stated that HMAS Stuart and HMAS Voyager conducted attacks against two Italian submarines and that the attacks were considered successful. However, no Italian submarines were sunk until June 17th, and that one by a French gunboat.) |
