Jan. 1, 1917 the Norwegian cargo ship Britannic became the first victim of SMS UC-37. Britannic was built at Sunderland in 1888 for a local shipping company and later sold to Norway. She was torpedoed about 44 miles west of Lexioes, Portugal, sources do not mention any casualties from the loss. |
