Daily Event for June 27


One boat launched, one boat lost both on June 27. Both boats began life at the Cantieri Tosi yard in Taranto,
Italy. In 1937 the Foca was launched, one of three in the class and the only one in the class lost in action.
The Foca went missing with all hands in Oct. 1940 in the Eastern Mediterranean for unknown reasons.

The other boat, Console Generale Liuzzi was part of a four boat class, all lost during the war. She was sunk
on June 27, 1940 by HMS Dainty H-53, HMS Ilex D-61, HMS Decoy H-75, HMS Defender H-07 and
HMAS Voyager D-31 138 miles southeast of Crete. Ten of the crew were killed.
