Daily Event for January 3

Jan. 3, 1917 the French ship Reichelieu was sunk by the UB-39. Reichelieu a fishing boat was only one victim
in the Bay of Biscay that day, the UB-39 sank an entire fishing fleet. Along with the aforementioned, the Columbia, Diamant de Couronne I, Diamant de Couronne II, Formidable, Helgoy, Honneur et Devouement,
Jeanne Mathilde, Petite Emilie, Pierre le Grande, Saint Jaques and finally the Saint Paul all found themselves
at the bottom of the bay near La Rochelle.

The UB-39 would end up, like the French fishing fleet, on the bottom of the sea when she was lost in late April 1917 in the Straits of Dover off the French coast.
